LAND SHARK COLLECTIVE
Land Shark Collective magazine is a quarterly creative collaboration focused on the unknown. Each issue of Land Shark is place-based and expands upon unique stories from passionate people. This magazine is about pushing the boundaries and reaching out to those people and places that aren’t always heard. It’s about finding adventure and boldness in the little things. It’s about connecting to a location and finding the beauty that it has to offer. We at Land Shark Collective are pushing our own curiosity to discover what hasn’t been discovered and to tell stories that deserve to be told.
The idea behind Land Shark came from a dream. When I was about ten years old, I was asleep in a hotel room with my entire family. While they slept soundly, I had a nightmare about land sharks (just regular sharks with legs) coming up out of the water and attacking people on land. It woke me up immediately, but I couldn’t shake the terrifying thought that a land shark might be in our hotel room (physically impossible on so many accounts, but the dream world had my mind racing). I’ve always been scared of sharks, and it’s something I’ve had to push past when living in Hawaii or just cruising at the beach. I didn’t want to let my irrational fear get the best of any of my experiences. Land Shark Collective acknowledges the tough and scary parts of life and turns it into something beautiful.
The Collective is what makes Land Shark possible. All parts of this publication have been built by this massive collective of artists, doodlers, journalists, photographers etc who just want to create and expand on their craft; maybe even learn a new one. Shirts are being screen-printed with hand-drawn illustrations from different styles of artists. Each story will have a different style to it as it will be written by a different person. In order to create something worth while, we at Land Shark believe you need to open your mind to all possibilities/twists and turns/trails/mediums. We want to continue to be curious about what and who is around us.
